“If you can afford the parts, we’ll fix your car for free!”

Everyday we tout “do unto others as you would them do unto you” yet, we are hypocrites in the sense that we will say all should help one another but when we’re asked to help there’s always an issue. Whether we’re “too busy” or “no money” or some other excuse, we’re always wanting others to do for us and never wanting to help others.

That isn’t the case with Adam Ely and his wonderful and beautiful wife, Toni. Believe it or not, Adam started and runs Hard Luck Automotive in Oklahoma (they officially started in 2017). Hard Luck Automotive is a non-profit and the best part? They fix your car for free!! “There must be a catch!” The only “catch”, if that's what you want to call it, is that you only need to provide the parts to fix your vehicle.

In some cases, you might not be able to do so and there are times that Hard Luck Automotive and its partners are able to help you out. The only thing holding you back is asking them if they're able to help you out. Either way, your vehicle will be running in no time!! Why are we talking about Hard Luck Automotive? Because he’s an Army Veteran, disabled, that does this out of the kindness of his heart. He (nor the rest of the crew) makes not one penny and continues to put his heart and soul into it.

On the daily, Adam wakes up and goes to “work” while keeping a bright, big, goofy ass smile on his face. (Please don’t pound me into the ground, Adam. I know you’re the Hulk.) Things get tough for Adam and he does speak on them but in a way that has a meaning and point. Remember shows like “All in the Family”, “Doctor Who”, “Good Times”, “M*A*S*H”, “Happy Days”, “Three’s Company” and things of the nature? The ones that were fun, provocative at times yet they still taught you something about life. That’s Adam in a nutshell. He’s a Veteran so he isn’t always politically correct, who cares? At the end of the day, he practices what he preaches.

Why did Adam decide to do this? He was bored. No, I kid. He done it because he knows what it’s like to be struggling, working your ass off, have kids to get to and from school, need a vehicle, and not have a dime to your name to take it to the Elroy Corner Garage for $450 to get a tire rotation and oil change. (Yes, that isn’t the price of those two things but in the mechanic world, you’d be surprised what some charge for the simplest of things.) It all started with a friend of his daughter's who couldn't take their car to a mechanic because the cost was just too much. You can hear more by listening to the interview from BARRACKS TALK we had with Adam below.

Adam is a disabled Veteran but he doesn’t limit helping to JUST Veterans. If you’re someone that needs help, you’re going to get help. If they can’t fix your vehicle, Adam and Hard Luck Automotive will find a place to help you out. Toni, Adam’s wife, is an instrumental part of Hard Luck Automotive. Not only does she help with the everyday goings on, she is also the graphic designer for their merchandise! Every piece of artwork you see is original and that Rat Rod, that’s Adam’s Rat Rod and yes, he knows that us “car guys” will know if it’s some vehicle that isn’t original.

Adam and Toni aren’t just a married couple, they’re a team. They make things, personal and business, work as smoothly as possible with huge smiles, laughs, and knowing they probably changed someone’s life for the better.https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5c4ce89fcc8feda742ee0383/1551416975621-HAAL9RQ1DT5D16C3R70S/ke17ZwdGBToddI8pDm48kBtpJ0h6oTA_T7DonTC8zFdZw-zPPgdn4jUwVcJE1ZvWQUxwkmyExglNqGp0IvTJZamWLI2zvYWH8K3-s_4yszcp2ryTI0HqTOaaUohrI8PIWkiAYz5ghgEgSGJuDQ4e1ZKXpRdhEMT7SgthRpD0vyIKMshLAGzx4R3EDFOm1kBS/43150827_2119667151399365_5804076472893177856_n.jpg?format=500w

Hard Luck Automotive isn’t in it for themselves. No one gets a paycheck and if that isn’t enough, they do so much for others outside of fixing their vehicles. In the past; Adam, Toni and the entire crew at Hard Luck Automotive have raised money for various things such-as cars, hospital bills, and so much more. Recently, Adam met a woman with a 12-year-old boy named Ty. Ty is, in Adam’s words, one hell of a kid. Ty is fighting a very rare cancer and the surgery costs are astronomical for his family. So instead of sitting by and letting cancer be a dick, Adam decided to start selling shirts, without Toni’s permission (we all know that's usually a big "no-no" when married.. This time however, exceptions and forgiveness after the fact!), of a graphic that Ty drew!!

On top of selling Ty’s amazing t-shirt, Adam started a GoFundMe to help curb the costs and it’s sitting idle. Why? Because people have the mindset that, “Someone else will give. I’m sure of it.” The reality of it? Just one dollar from everyone that has seen it would surpass the goal and help this little boy beat this asshole of a cancer, help his mom with her smile, and make life beautiful. DV Radio, to help Adam and Hard Luck Automotive with their charity for Ty, has donated all of the DV Radio resources (DV Radio’s live stream, website, chat room, personnel, music, and much more) for them to run a marathon on December 19th through December 21st leading into BARRACKS TALK where, hopefully, we will have the pleasure of having Adam (maybe some of the team) on as well to talk about what they are trying to do. We want you to hear it from the Unicorn Giant's mouth. (That's not a stab for those that don't understand the joke. Unicorn's are majestic beings and a myth as are giants. Adam is both of those yet, he's not a myth. He is reality.) (NOTE: DV Radio in no way endorses any of this marathon and is only donating resources.)

Many people believe that hard work out of the kindness of your heart never pays off. Some will say that you’re grasping at straws and just want fame or fortune, but can you truly say that about someone like Adam and his wife Toni? Whether it’s someone needing a ride to the grocery store, they need a leaky pipe patched up, or something as simple as a shoulder to lean on – do it. Don’t wait for someone else to come along and do it. You could be that person that needs someone or something and waiting… waiting…. And waiting.

The world is filled with amazing people like Adam and Toni but they never get the recognition or help they deserve. We might put them in the news a couple of times but then it’s back to politics or something that everyone is so sick of hearing, we eventually turn off the television and find something else to occupy our minds with. At the end of the day, only those that want to make a difference will push through hell, fire, and brimstone to accomplish their mission.
